Bramerton Common

Located just under five miles from the centre of Norwich, on the banks of the River Yare, the pretty village of Bramerton is a fantastic place to start your tour of the Broads. The village has a history stretching back hundreds of years and is within easy reach of some of the most beautiful and accessible countryside in Norfolk. If you’re looking for a picturesque destination for a family day out or an afternoon stroll by the water, Bramerton, and its pretty common, is the perfect place to start.

Route

 Bramerton Common is located a short walk from the centre of the village, close to the River Yare. The common has long been popular with people travelling to the area by boat as there are a number of moorings available along the water’s edge. If you’re currently sailing around the Broads and have pulled up in Bramerton for a night or two, you’ll find plenty of footpaths to explore in the local area.

The long-distance Wherryman’s Way passes right through Bramerton Common. Linking Norwich with Great Yarmouth, the route is 35 miles long. Although you probably won’t want to attempt the entire path while you’re moored up at Bramerton Common, you can walk as much or as little of the route as you like. Well signposted and easy to follow, it’s a great way to explore the local area.

There’s also a short circular route that takes you from Bramerton Common along the water’s edge to the village itself. From there it turns back towards the River Yare and the pretty riverside pub that’s located just a few hundred metres from Bramerton Common and moorings.

Difficulty

 Most of the footpaths in and around Bramerton are flat and well maintained. However, during wet weather footpaths can easily become muddy and there are a number of stiles and gates to navigate. This means that some routes may not be suitable for people with mobility problems.

Facilities

 You’ll find a car park right by Bramerton Common. Bramerton is also on a local bus route and a national bike path. This makes the village easy to access no matter how you want to travel. The Waters Edge Woodsend pub is located just a short walk from Bramerton Common. Serving a great choice of drinks, meals and snacks, it’s the perfect place to refuel and relax as you explore the local area.

Points of interest

 The common itself is a great spot for a relaxing afternoon. Pack a picnic and soak up the sun on the lush green grass or take a stroll along the banks of the River Yare. If you want to find out more about the local area, walk into the village of Bramerton itself where you’ll find a pretty  thirteenth-century church, a community orchard and a recreation ground.
