Meet Mavis, Herbert Woods best customer!
At Herbert Woods we are pleased to say we have lots of loyal customers who come back year after year and it’s always wonderful to see them again.
But we were wondering if anyone can beat Mavis Bonser from Mansfield? When she was eight she came on her first Herbert Woods holiday to Potter Heigham with her parents and 70 years later she is still coming to see us!
Nowadays Mavis, and husband John, enjoy three holidays a year, either taking a boat or one of our waterside cottages.
“I think when I first came it was about £50 a week to hire a boat which was a considerable sum of money then and my parents saved all year so we could have our holiday,” said Mavis Bonser “My parents loved the Norfolk Broads and we used to come as a big family with uncles and aunts.
“The boats were all made of wood and were a lot narrower and you had to push the top of the taps to make them work. If I remember correctly when I first visited Wroxham Roy’s store was just a little nissen hut!
“Also all around the Marina at Potter Heigham were great piles of wood which were used to make the boats and there were a lot more yachts about than today.
“The Norfolk Broads are just lovely, so peaceful and relaxing and the people are always friendly.”
Mrs Bonser did have a short break from the Broads when her husband bought a touring caravan but she soon persuaded him to head east and was soon back in Norfolk.
She is also very clear on why she loves being here. “There is so much to see and do, we love going to the coast at Sea Palling and Walcott and enjoy visiting Wroxham and villages like Coltishall.
“We are both hooked on the place and would not consider going anywhere else. We have our three holidays with Herbert Woods already booked for 2015 and when we get back to Mansfield I will start counting the weeks until our next one.”
When we meet people like Mavis and John it really does make us feel good knowing that all the hard work the team here at Herbert Woods put in is appreciated.
We do not think you will find two better ambassadors for the delights of holidaying on the Norfolk Broads and we look forward to welcoming them to Potter Heigham for many years to come.
