Bramerton Riverside Walk
One of the best things about the Norfolk countryside is that it’s incredibly accessible. Footpaths criss-cross the fields and woodlands and waterside routes run along many of the region’s rivers and lakes. As a result, there’s an almost endless choice of walks to enjoy. And while some are long-distance routes stretching for miles and miles, others are short, easy strolls around the area’s most picturesque spots.
If you’re planning a short stroll in the local area, Bramerton Riverside Walk is the perfect choice. Suitable for people of all ages, the walk offers a gentle meander through fields and along waterways, passing a welcoming pub on the way.
Route
Bramerton Riverside Walk begins at Bramerton Common. There’s parking available right at the start of the walk, so if you’re travelling by car you can set off straight away. Walk along the banks of the River Yare towards Surlingham for around a mile before turning right, and then right again, and heading back towards Bramerton.
Walk up Mill Hill towards Surlingham Lane and then turn right onto Easthill Lane by Bramerton Village Hall. After few hundred metres, you’ll see a footpath on your right-hand side that will take you towards the local pub and the banks of the River Yare.
Difficulty
Bramerton Riverside Walk is an easy route that should be suitable for people of all ages. However, as it’s partly off-road, it might not be suitable for people with mobility problems. If the full three-mile route is a little long, you can cut the walk short by turning right instead of left when you come to Mill Hill. Alternatively, simply walk along the river for as long as you want before heading back towards the pub. Bramerton Riverside Walk is suitable for dogs.
Facilities
There’s a car park by Bramerton Common and parking is also available at the village hall. Bramerton is on the number 85 bus route from Surlingham to Norwich City Centre. Buses run every hour during the week, however weekend services may vary.
Points of interest
The most picturesque part of the walk is the stretch that takes you right along the water’s edge. This quiet, shady road is the perfect place for a relaxing stroll on a warm summer’s day.
Right at the end of the walk, you’ll come across the Waters Edge Woodsend, a welcoming pub that’s perched right on the banks of the river. The restaurant serves traditional pub fare throughout the week with some specials available at weekends. Sit at one of the outside tables and watch the boats slowly sailing past or head into the cosy bar to warm up after a bracing walk in the countryside.
Bramerton Riverside Walk is a great way to see a little more of this pretty corner of Norfolk.
